Taken as a whole, the New England Coast presents a variety of opportunities for fun, play, entertainment and learning.  Although the region is best known as a vacation haven for many, it is best explored by targeting its topmost offerings.  After all, even the locals will find it difficult to see everything.  Here are the top 6 New England Coast destinations you might want to visit:

Cape Cod

Cape Cod, Massachusetts has everything you want – you only need to know where to get it.  Whether you’re a sports-loving tourist or an outdoors enthusiast, you’ll find plenty to fall in love with at Cape Cod.  The towns have remained preserved over the years, making you feel as if you fell off a time machine and stepped right smack in an era that existed only a few hundred years ago. 

Its national parks and landmarks have also remained pristine and well-managed.  And let’s not forget that this is summer town, so go and head for the water.  This New England Coast destination has some of the best in the region.

Newport

Rhode Island is a small piece of land area but what it lacks for in size, it more than makes up for in history.  Visitors flock to this island, particularly in Newport, to rest and play.  Many of them have even made their stay permanent. 

Newport is rich in nautical history.  It is also the home to some very important sports spectacles, including the America’s Cup.  For music aficionados, Newport also is the place to flock to for the annual Jazz Festival.  Once you come to Newport, you’ll be able to distinguish its culture from others in the region and it’s not something you’ll sooner forget. 

Acadia National Park

This is arguably the most famous national park in Maine.  And it better be – at 40,000 acres of forested land hiding lakes, valleys and mountains, Acadia National Park is obviously a national treasure.  From here, you have a choice of mountain views from Cadillac Mountain to Gorham Mountain, offering unbeatable views of the Atlantic Ocean, Blue Hill and Penobscot bays.  This area is also home to Thunder Hole, famous for the loud, ear-shattering report its waves make against the solid rock.

Although already a top tourist destination in the New England Coast, you’ll be pleased to know that Acadia National Park has managed to maintain its quiet elegance and dignity.  Go ahead and explore what it can offer – from its old markets to its restaurants to its antique shops.

White Mountain Forest

White Mountain National Forest is found in New Hampshire.  It boasts of some of the most spectacular sceneries in the region, with crystal-clear lakes and dramatic mountain peaks.  Those who prefer to spend their New England vacation breathing pure mountain air prefer this location, particularly suited for annual family trips.

Boston

Whether you’re here for shopping or for a lesson in history, Boston has plenty to offer.  It has some of the best bakeshops and restaurants in the New England Coast area, thanks to the Italian invasion.  A taste of Europe is just a stroll away here and there are plenty of parks, museums and gardens to fill your day time exploration hours.  And let’s not forget this is the home of the Red Sox, the conqueror of the mighty Yankees.  Good luck getting a seat at Fenway Park, though because the seats are often filled to capacity.

Old Orchard Beach

Old Orchard Beach in Maine has amazingly preserved its quaint charm.  If you’ve always looked forward to summer as a child, then you will feel as if you stepped back in time once more as soon as your feet hit the sandy beaches of Old Orchard.  The beach itself is home to fairs, amusement rides (the carousel remains a big hit), cotton candy and of course, the boardwalk.  It’s good old-fashioned fun that remains big in the hearts of many who have been there.
